Checkout www.farecast.com, it's a very interesting website that monitors various travel websites to help you determine the least expensive way to travel by looking at cheapest travel dates between your destinations - graphs of fairs and a meta search of the different providers.
For instance, it told me the cheapest flights between where I live and Chicago are had on Wednesdays - I never knew that.
