During my visit to the digital life conference in NYC, I exerienced something curious - the decision to walk a mile and a half in busy NYC streets or take a cab?
Admittedly, it's been a while since I took cabs in NYC, but I found it most difficult to catch cabs at the Javitz center or along most streets. Actually it could take almost 1/2 an hour to catch one.
Fares weren't too expensive - about $7 with tips, but very difficult to catch.
Would you spend $7 to get somewherebin NYC with a 5-30 minute wait or would you simply walk through the crowded streets and get there in 20-40 minutes?

Walk, unless you have to be somewhere quick. NYC is a great walking town.
I almost always walk and rarely take cabs. Of course the subway and bus are also an option, though buses tend to be slow. So often it seems that the times I would most likely consider a cab, like when it's raining, are when it's impossible to get one.
I do alot of walking when I go to NYC - its a great excuse to get exercise and save a little cash at the same time.
I agree with m. x, there were never cabs when I needed them, but it is fun to walk around.
