Double-dipping in disability insurance

Another important point I forgot to mention about disability insurance.

Often, if you own a private disability insurance policy - say one providing $7000 per month own occupation coverage, you join a company that has a group disability policy and double-dip!

The key however, is that you must initially have had a private disability policy before joining the group plan.

If you are disabled you can receive payments from both companies.

Hopefully you'll have rememembered to pay your premiums with post tax dollars - which will prevent the federal government from taxing your claims benefit.

In a survey taken in this article (http://www.1healthinsurance.net/articles/4%20out%20of%205%20disability%20income%20insurance%20claimants.pdf) it says that 82% of people are satisfied with their disability insurance policy.
